about

The Committee came together in 2018 following a series of courses (sadly now discontinued) in alternative musical forms run by Oxford University on the premises of the University of Reading. Thanks to Roger Thomas for these. Between the five members we have years of experience of rock, jazz, electronica and the sort of thing that was called avant-garde sixty years ago. Our music is largely improvised, sometimes with a prearranged structure or pre-recorded starting points, but often entirely free-form. It's not jazz, rock, or electronic dance music but we guarantee that it’s music you’ve never heard before.
Tracks 1 & 2 were recorded live at Sounds for a Small Space in Stroud, thanks to Alexander Caminata for inviting us and for the recording. Track 3 is a studio collage of field recordings. Track 4 was recorded live at the 2021 Whiteknights Studio Trail where we played for two days while visitors to see the art trickled in. Some trickled out again, some sat and listened for a while, some stayed to chat. Track 5 was recorded as live in December 2018. A sonic rainbow if you like, the soundbow is also the part of a bell where the clapper strikes.
